Kelly's Ordinary People Podcast

A Different Stroke

Kelly Gurski Season 1 Episode 9

Marney is a softly spoken country gal from Dayboro.  But don’t let her soft demeanour fool you, she is one tough cookie.

Marney met her perfect match husband  in 1996 when she was 18 and they formed a life long partnership, raising two children together.

In 2019 Marney’s  world as she knew it stopped, then it played out in slow motion.  The longest and craziest journey of her life.  A journey that taught her so much.  To live, to love and to never give up.

Marney had a stroke, as luck would have it whilst she was training with her best friend and PT; Lisa Marshall.  If she had been home alone she would have more than likely died or not received help in record time.

As Marney was reminded by a doctor;  a stroke is always a medical emergency, there is no such thing as a minor stroke, a stroke is a stroke.

Sit back and enjoy this lovely and at times heart wrenching story.

The Stroke Foundation recommends the F.A.S.T. test as an easy way to remember the most common signs of stroke. Using the F.A.S.T. test involves asking these simple questions:

Face Check their face. Has their mouth drooped?

Arms Can they lift both arms?

Speech Is their speech slurred?
Do they understand you?

Time Is critical. If you see any of these signs call 000 straight away.
